Hello St Albans

Right in the heart of St Albans, you’ll find Craft & Cleaver – our original smokehouse and the place where this slightly mad barbecue journey first began.

Tucked away just off St Peter’s Street on Catherine Street, we’re only a short walk from St Albans City Train Station and perfectly placed whether you’re shopping, meeting friends, escaping the office, or simply following the smell of slow-smoked brisket.

Getting here...

Getting here couldn’t be easier. There are plenty of nearby parking options, including Drovers Way, Christopher Place, Adelaide Street, Gombards, and Bricket Road. In other words, you’re never far from a cold beer and a plate of barbecue.

beer garden

When the sun decides to grace us with its presence, our hidden beer garden really comes into its own. Tucked away behind the restaurant, it’s one of those spots that feels like you’ve stumbled across a well-kept secret. Grab a craft beer, order a couple of cocktails, load the table with barbecue, and suddenly that “quick bite” has turned into three hours. It happens more often than you’d think.

Award-winning brisket

Of course, the star of the show is what’s coming out of the smoker. Award-winning brisket, pork belly, burnt ends, sausage. It’s barbecue that spends up to 16 hours over cherry, maple and hickory before it ever reaches your table.

Come join us

Whether you’re here for date night, a family feast, after-work drinks, a birthday celebration or just because it’s Tuesday and brisket sounds like a good idea, you’ll find the same thing every time: proper barbecue, great drinks and an atmosphere that’s relaxed, welcoming and just the right side of loud.

We’ve been firing up the smokers here for over a decade, and we’re only just getting started.

We’ll save you a seat.

Hidden away behind the restaurant, it’s the perfect spot for sunny lunches, after-work drinks, weekend cocktails and tables full of slow-smoked barbecue. If the weather’s playing ball, there’s nowhere we’d rather be – watching the Pitmasters at work, smoking on our 600-gallon Ironbrand smoker

Absolutely. Whether it’s birthdays, family get-togethers, work socials or catching up with friends, we’ve got plenty of space, sharing platters, combo boards and enough barbecue to keep everyone happy.

Walk-ins are always welcome if we’ve got room, but we’d recommend booking ahead, especially at weekends. It saves disappointment and means we’ll have your table waiting.

We’re all about authentic American barbecue. Think slow-smoked brisket, pork belly, burnt ends, sausage, burgers, chicken, creative sides and seasonal specials, washed down with craft beers, cocktails and a well-stocked gantry.
